This guide provides the information you need to start sharing files over Meshnet on macOS.

Before you begin

Make sure that the device you want to share files with meets the following criteria:

  • The NordVPN app is running, and the Meshnet feature is enabled in the app.

  • The device is connected to your Meshnet.

Note

You can add devices to your Meshnet in two ways, depending on device ownership:

  • To add your own device, just enable Meshnet on that device. See for details.

  • To add an external device, send an invitation via the NordVPN app with the owner's email. Ensure the invitation is accepted. See .

Send files

  1. In your app, go to Meshnet > Overview and locate the device you want to share files with.

  2. Click the Send files link button under the desired device, as shown:

  3. In the file selection dialog that appears, select the file or group of files you want to share, and click Open.

Note

The file transfer begins when the recipient accepts your download request on their device. For details, consult the appropriate guides:

Receive shared files

Note

Make sure that Meshnet is enabled on your device to receive the file transfer request from the sender.

  1. Have your sharer send the files. You will see their request as a file transfer notification in the NordVPN app and the upper-right corner of your Mac's screen.

  2. In the file transfer notification you received, click Review.

  3. Click Accept to begin the download.

Once the download is complete, you can find the files shared with you by checking your computer’s default download folder location, which is typically the Downloads folder.

Monitoring and managing file transfers

NordVPN informs you about changes in file transfer status via notifications showing if the transfer was successful or not. You can view these notifications either within the app or in Notification Center on your Mac.

Additionally, when a device is in the process of transferring files or has a pending file transfer, the icon that appears next to the device name is replaced with a loading spinner:

Canceling file transfers

You can cancel all active and pending file transfers to or from a Meshnet device.

  1. Select Cancel all transfers.

  2. In the dialog that appears, click Cancel all transfers to confirm.

See also

You can only send files to the devices that have the file sharing permission enabled for your device. For more information, see .

Go to Meshnet > Overview and locate the device whose incoming or outgoing transfers you want to cancel.

Click the More button to the right of the device.
